Every Fifth Gen Z and Alpha Member Ready to Receive Pensions in Cryptocurrencies
The young generation is breaking financial stereotypes—every fifth member of Generation Z (born from 1997 to 2012) and Alpha (born after 2012) is ready to receive pensions in cryptocurrencies, according to a new study by Bitget Research.
Traditional pension funds are losing the trust of the youth. Over 78% of respondents prefer alternative ways to save for retirement, and 40% are already investing in digital assets. It is unsurprising—the classic system of pension provision seems dull and clumsy compared to the dynamic world of decentralized finance.
Youth Chooses Freedom
"This is a signal for the entire financial industry," says Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget. "The young generation no longer wants to put up with universal pension systems. They need modern solutions that provide control, flexibility, and transparency".
Three Stumbling Blocks
However, three key factors hinder the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies:
- High price volatility—even experienced traders are not always ready for sudden exchange rate swings
- Regulatory uncertainty—the legal frameworks in many countries are still in the formation stage
- Cybersecurity threats—in 2024, hackers stole digital assets worth $2.3 billion, which is a 40% increase compared to 2023 ($1.69 billion)
The greatest danger comes from vulnerabilities in access control systems—weaknesses in security mechanisms that determine user rights in computer systems. Through such breaches, attackers stole $1.9 billion (81% of the total amount) across 67 attacks. However, Michael Pearl, Vice President of Market Strategy at Cyvers, is confident: implementing off-chain transaction validation can prevent 99% of all cryptocurrency thefts and fraud.
Despite the obvious risks, the interest of young people in cryptocurrencies continues to grow. Experts predict further increase in adoption among institutional and retail investors due to improved regulatory environment and rising value of digital assets.
